Passive Solar Building

Passive Solar Building

Passive solar building is the process of engineering a finished structure to use solar energy to enhance or to provide energy in the form of heat or light.

A generalized overview of this is allowing sunlight to heat a structure during the winter and to only offer light during the summer. In temperate climates this method is often overlooked or misused. A building near the Equator for example will often have windows facing North and South but protect the building from solar load from the East and West. In temperate climates engineering can be simple by adding an extended roof or eave as a structural element.
